Women's Soccer Announces Fall Schedule

4/7/2005

  • The 2005 Schedule

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Head coach Chris Kane and the Marshall women?s soccer team has announced its 2005 schedule, one that will embark on a new era in Conference USA.

For the first time in Kane?s tenure, the Herd will host a fall tournament. The pair of tournaments, labeled the Thundering Herd Nike Classic and the Marshall Green and White Invitational will take place on the weekends of August 26th and September 9th, respectively. The Herd will battle Duquesne and Pittsburgh in the Nike Classic and LaSalle and Georgia Southern in the Green and White Invite.

Other non-conference opponents include Evansville, Samford, Kentucky, Morehead State and UNC-Charlotte.

Probably the most exciting part of the schedule, however, lies in the opportunity for a championship in the inaugural C-USA season. The Herd will play host to UAB, Memphis, Southern Methodist, Tulsa and East Carolina. Marshall will in turn rack up plenty of miles in its travels to Houston, Rice, Southern Miss and Central Florida.

"We're very happy about our 2005 schedule and a new beginning for the Marshall Women's Soccer program as we head into Conference USA. I think our schedule is very balanced and we're extremely excited about hosting the Nike Classic and the Green & White Invitational. We have some very good programs coming to Huntington in the fall which should be exciting for the community to watch, including two NCAA Tournament teams from last year, SMU and UAB."

The Herd returns 19 players from last year?s squad, including 2004 Mid-American Conference All-Freshman honoree, Kassie Hollman (Marietta, Ga.).

MU's first official game of 2005 is against Duquesne at 8 p.m. on August 26th in the opening game of the Thundering Herd Nike Classic.
