Matt Gwilliam Named Women's Soccer Assistant Coach

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head women's soccer coach Chris Kane announced the hiring of Matt Gwilliam as an assistant coach. Gwilliam joins Marshall after serving as an assistant coach at The Citadel?s women?s soccer program for three seasons.
Gwilliam was at The Citadel from 2002-05, where his duties included scheduling, recruiting, budgeting, supervision of assistant coaches, and on-field coaching. From January to May 2005, Gwilliam was the interim coach of the Lady Bulldogs and led the program through spring training and their spring schedule.
Prior to joining The Citadel staff, Gwilliam served as the men?s assistant coach at Dickinson College during the 2001 season. He assisted the highly successful Hershey High School girls soccer team during the 2001-2002 seasons and currently is the assistant director of coaching for the Carolina Girls Soccer Club. Gwilliam is also an adjuct faculty member in the Department of Helath and Exercise Science.
"We're excited about Matt joining our staff," said Kane. "He has had experience as an interim head coach at the Division I level, and he will add a lot to our program as we head into Conference USA."
A 2001 graduate from Elizabethtown College, Gwilliam played for the Blue Jays men?s soccer team from 1997-2001. He spent four-years between the pipes as the starting goalkeeper, earning Middle Atlantic Conference First-Team all-Star recognition and four all-academic team honors, while being nominated for an all-America spot.
A native of Quakertown, PA, Gwilliam holds a bachelor?s degree in Social Studies Education from Elizabethtown (2001) and a master?s degree from The Citadel (2004). He holds a National diploma from the NSCAA.
