HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Junior swimmer Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) has qualified to compete in the NCAA Championships on March 17-19. The meet will be held in Lafayette, Ind. on the campus of Purdue University.
This is the second consecutive year that Kuurto has qualified for the NCAA Championships as the lone representative of the Mid-American Conference. Kuurto will compete in the 100-yard butterfly with a qualifying time of 54.22. She enters the event ranked 26th (out of 53). Kuurto will also compete in the 200-yard freestyle with a qualifying time of 1:50.35 and ranked 63rd (out of 67). Both events will be held on Friday, March 18.
"We are excited for her to be able to go," said Marshall University Head Coach Leonard Kraus. "With her having gone last year, she now knows the feel of the meet and what to expect. Hopefully Milla will be able to go in and score in the 100 fly and get pumped for the 200 free."
Kuurto led the Thundering Herd at the MAC Championships finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly, the 200-yard butterfly and second in the 200-yard individual medley.
