Women's Soccer Travels to Kentucky for Two Games

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Coming off of its first win of 2005, the Thundering Herd women's soccer team travels to Lexington, Ky., on Friday, Sept. 16, and Morehead, Ky., on Sunday, Sept. 18 for games against the University of Kentucky and Morehead Sate. Friday's match against the Wildcats will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday's start time with the Eagles is set for 1:30 p.m.
The Wildcats enter Friday's match ranked tenth in the Great Lakes region for the second week in a row. In its last match, Kentucky played to a 1-1 draw with nationally ranked (20) Ohio State on Sept. 11. The tie with Ohio State is the third for the Wildcats this season, making their record 3-0-3. Marshall trails the all time series 0-2 and lost its last meeting with the Wildcats, 2-1, in 2001.
The Herd got the chance to see Morehead State (2-2-2) play during the Green and White Invitational this past weekend in Huntington. Morehead made the trip to Sam Hood Field and played both Georgia Southern and LaSalle to double overtime ties of 0-0. Marshall leads the Eagles, 5-0, in the all time series.
Marshall's first win of the season came on Sunday, Sept. 11, against Georgia Southern in the Herd's first Green and White Invitational. Out shooting the Eagles 28-2, Herd sophomore Kassie Hollman (Marietta, Ga./Pope) scored the game winning goal in the 85th minute of play. Overall, Marshall has scored two goals on the season, the first coming from Kate Heilich (Columbia, S.C./Dreher), Friday, Sept. 9, in a 2-1 loss to LaSalle.
The Herd returns home on Friday, Oct. 7, to play their first Conference USA match on Sam Hood Field against UAB. Kick off is set for 5:30 p.m.
