LOUISVILLE - Fresh off its season-opening victory at the Lady Herd Fall Invitational, the Marshall women's golf team will head to the University of Louisville's Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup for a 54-hole event at the Cardinal Club on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19-20.
The Cardinal Cup gets underway with 36 holes on Monday after an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will be played on Tuesday (8:30 a.m. shotgun). The Cardinal Club is a 6,181-yard, par-72 course.
Marshall won its first tournament title since the women's golf program was relaunched in 2002, after more than a 20-year absence on campus, when it claimed a 27-stroke victory on Tuesday at its own Lady Herd Fall Invitational. The team's win also included medalist honors for junior Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park), who squeezed out a two-stroke victory over teammate Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and Longwood's Stephanie Hicks. Herd juniors Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky./Central Arkansas) and Stacy Wagner (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) rounded out the top five to give MU four of the top five finishers.
Thirteen teams will participate in the 2005 Cardinal Cup, including Marshall, Louisville, UCF, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, James Madison, Kentucky, South Florida, Southern Miss and Wofford.
