HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall Thundering Herd softball team will play a doubleheader scrimmage as part of its annual Green-White series Saturday at the Dorothy Hicks Softball Complex.
The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 9 a.m., while the second half of the doubleheader will begin at approximately 11 a.m.
"Fall ball is a time for teaching and learning," Herd softball head coach Shonda Stanton said. "Our solid core of returning players has done a great job assisting in the teaching process.
"Our newcomers have adjusted quickly to our system."
The first game of the Green-White series ended in a 2-2 tie. White, which had 10 hits, was paced by a 3-for-4 effort from senior outfielder Amanda Williams. Freshman Rachel Sofie led the Green team offensively with 2-for-3 performance and two RBI.
"The green and white games provide an opportunity for our coaching staff to evaluate each individual player," Stanton added, "as well as narrow our focus for our off-season work-outs come mid-October."
Following Saturday's doubleheader, the Green-White Fall Ball series will continue on Saturday, Oct. 8 with a single game at 4 p.m. followed by a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9.
