Herd Drop Thriller At Home To UTEP

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Jason Williams made a layup with three seconds remaining to lift UTEP to a 53-51 win over Marshall on Saturday night.
Williams and Edgar Moreno led UTEP (11-5, 4-0 Conference USA) with 12 points apiece.
The Miners led throughout the second half, holding Marshall without a field goal over a five-minute stretch until Markel Humphrey banked a 3-pointer to tie the game with 13 seconds remaining. Humphrey led Marshall with 14 points.
UTEP won its fourth straight game to remain in first place in the conference. Marshall (7-9, 1-3) lost its third straight.
John Tofi scored eight first-half points to lead the Miners but went to the bench with his third foul early in the second half. He finished with 10 points. UTEP went on a 13-4 run afterward, taking a 39-30 lead on a 3-pointer by Kevin Henderson with 13 minutes remaining.
Marshall used its defense to help close the deficit. The Thundering Herd forced 14 turnovers while committing a season-low seven.
