GLEN ALLEN, Va. - The Marshall women's golf team, fresh off its fifth-place showing in the 23-team Great Smokies Intercollegiate, will resume fall play when it competes in the Spider Invitational, hosted by Richmond, on Oct. 16-17.

Senior Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.) was Marshall's top finisher at the Great Smokies event with a 5-over 149 for a 14th-place tie. As a team, in addition to the tie for fifth place, the Herd carded its first sub-300 score in a round since the program was resurrected in 2002. Fellow senior Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va.) paces the Herd this season with a 77.0 stroke average and was just three strokes back of Mahar at MU's last outing.

Competing for Marshall at the event will be Mahar, Hatcher, Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio), Stacy Wagner (Harmony, Pa.) and Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.).

The Spider Invitational field includes Richmond, William & Mary, Longwood, James Madison, Campbell, High Point, Bucknell, Boston College, Virginia, Cleveland State and The Citadel.
