GLEN ALLEN, Va. - The Marshall women's golf team stands in fourth place after day one of the Spider Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond, with a team score of 327 at the par-72, 6,038-yard Virginia Crossings Golf Club.
On a tough day for the field - with no golfer under par - Marshall senior Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.) claimed the Herd's top score through 18 holes with a 6-over 78. Mahar, in a tie for sixth place, is four shots behind leader AnnMarie Dalton (74) of High Point.
MU's Allyson Hatcher fired an 81, good enough for a 14th-place tie.
The University of Virginia "B" team leads the 12-team tournament with a 311, followed by Campbell (316) and High Point (319).
The event's final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday utilizing tee times. Marshall will tee off at 7:45 a.m., looking for its second straight top-5 finish. In its last outing, the Herd placed in a tie for fifth at the 23-team Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
