HUNTINGTON - The Marshall Thundering Herd women's swimming and diving team looks to improve upon its perfect 2-0 start to the season when it hosts Youngstown State Saturday at 1 p.m.

Saturday's Homecoming meet will be the Herd's first action in two weeks. Marshall disposed of West Virginia Wesleyan 163-23 and Xavier 119.5-107.5 in the season-opening tri-meet Friday, Oct. 13. The Herd then finished second out of four teams at the West Virginia Relays in Morgantown Saturday, Oct. 14.

In the home tri-meet, Marshall won the first eight events of the meet. Junior co-captains Ashley McIlvain (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and Renee Lambert (Maryville, Tenn./William Blount) posted victories in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle, respectively. McIlvain finished in 10:32.16, cruising to a 10-second victory, while Lambert won her discipline by nearly four seconds (1:55.82).

Sophomore Kayla Truswell (London, Ontario/Banting Secondary) recorded a career-best time in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:07.04. Truswell's first-place finish bested her previous career-best time by more than six-tenths of a second.

On the boards, Siobhan Schuurman (Edmonton, Alberta/Ross Sheppard) swept both the one- and three-meter diving events. Schuurman posted a score of 202.43 in the one-meter and 237.45 in the three-meter.

Youngstown State enters Saturday's meet with a clean slate, as it opens regular season competition. The Herd owns a 4-0 all-time advantage over the Penguins, which finished the 2005-2006 season with a 3-8 record.

"I think this meet will help us know more about our team," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "We will get to see the freshmen a lot against an improving Youngstown State team."

It will be the Penguins' second trip to Huntington in three seasons. The Herd took a season-opening 210-90 win over YSU in 2004. Last season, the Herd outlasted Youngstown State, 128.5-86.5.

Following Saturday's meet with the Penguins, the Marshall Thundering Herd will host a quad-meet, featuring West Virginia, Duquesne and East Carolina Saturday, Nov. 4. The meet will be begin at 12:30 p.m.
