BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Marshall Thundering Herd women's swimming and diving team begins its preparation for the final stretch of the fall semester as it participates at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Invitational this weekend.

The three-day invitational, which will be held at the Bill Powell Natatorium, begins Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. (EST) and runs through Sunday, Nov. 19. In addition to the hosting Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky, the Herd (4-2) will also compete against John Brown University, Missouri-Rolla, Vanderbilt and Evansville.

It will be Marshall's first competition in two weeks. On Nov. 4, the Herd knocked off Duquesne 187-101 before falling to West Virginia 208-92 and East Carolina 212-98.

Freshman Briana Burns (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) registered one of the Herd's two individual victories, winning the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 50.93. Junior school record-holder Michaela Sceli (LaSalle, Ontario/St. Thomas of Villanova) was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.67.

"This should be a good meet," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "It provides a chance for everyone to swim a championship format and give us a bit more experience.

"We will get to see four events for each swimmer and I think we could have a lot of final swims. This meet should set up our swimmers and divers for the Miami Invitational in a few weeks."

Following the WKU Invitational, the Herd will have a week off for Thanksgiving break before traveling to Oxford, Ohio, for the Miami Invitational Thursday, Nov.30-Saturday, Dec. 2.
