ENSENADA, Mexico - The Marshall women's golf team placed seventh at the Baja Invitational, on Feb. 13-14, with junior Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va.) finishing in a tie for 16th place.
Marshall opened with a first round 343, and closed out the 54-hole event with scores of 345 and 337 for a team total of 1,025. Nebraska won the seven-team event with a 928 (309-309-310). Brigham Young finished second (307-312-313-932).
Hatcher tied two others with a 248 (83-84-81), closing out the season's first tournament with her lowest round, a 9-over 81. Only two golfers managed to shoot a 1-over round on the difficult, par-72 Oceanos and Lagos Courses. Medalist Stephanie Ruiz of Nebraska (75-73-75-223) fired a 73 in her second round while teammate Elli Brown, third place, opened the tournament with a 73.
MU juniors Stacy Wagner (t-30th), Tammy Mahar (33rd) and Meredith Crislip (t-34th) were the next highest finishers for the Herd.
Whitney Wolejko (41st ), Jodie Switzer (42nd) and Amber Churchill (44th) rounded out the Marshall contingent.
Marshall's next tournament comes in Pinehurst, N.C., at the Pinehurst Challenge on March 12-14.
