HOUSTON - Marshall University senior Milla Kuurto qualified for the finals of the women's 200 Yard IM in Thursday morning qualifying action to lead the Thundering Herd swim team at the Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Houston.

Kuurto, a senior from Lohja, Finland, posted a time of 2:06.84 in the preliminaries to qualify for this evenings finals. SMU freshman Jennifer Basil's time of 2:02.66 set a new pool record and led all qualifiers.

Thundering Herd sophomore Lauren Ford recorded a time of 2:11.10 in the 200 Yard IM and will compete in the 200-IM concelation final, while Marshall sophomore Renee Lambert recorded a time of 5:05.55 in the 500 free prelims and will compete in the concelation final.

"Laren and Renee had the best two swims of the session considering that they are coming off of illness and shoulder surgery, respectively," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "I think we were a little flat this morning, but hopefully we will come back tonight and have a good swim."

The C-USA Championships continue with session 4 set to begin at 7 p.m. (EST) today.
