Final Stats

HOUSTON - Senior Sikeetha Shepard-Hall, a Houston native, scored a team-high 17 points and junior Modupe Ishola pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Marshall University to a 57-50 win over the University of Houston in Conference USA women's basketball action Monday.

"It feels good to get a win," Shepard-Hall said. "It is awesome to come home and have the chance play in front of my family and friends. It was a total team effort and I am so happy we got the win tonight."

Shepard-Hall, playing in front of a sizeable contingent of family and friends, managed to do most of her damage from the free throw line. The MU guard connected on 9-of-13 free throws to help the Herd pull away in a see-saw battle that featured nine lead changes and seven ties.

Ishola, recorded an impressive double-double by adding 16 points to her 15 rebounds. Ishola was a powerful force underneath against the under-sized Cougars and she helped Marshall out-rebound UH, 53-35.

One sign that luck was beginning to swing the Herd's way came at the 4:40 mark of the second half. With the Herd clinging to a 48-44 lead, Marshall's Bridget Chacon launched a desperation shot from near mid-court with only one second on the shot clock that banked in and gave the Herd its seven point cushion.

With the win, Marshall improved to 11-10 overall, 6-4 in Conference USA, and snapped a five game losing streak. Houston fell to 9-12, 6-4 C-USA.

The Herd will return to action on Friday night when it hosts UAB at the Cam Henderson Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
