CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. - Marshall junior Stacy Wagner (Harmony, Pa.) carded a team-best 235, thanks to a final-round 77 on Tuesday, to finish in a three-way tie for 13th place at the fourth annual Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate at El Diablo Golf & Country Club. As a team, the Herd (1,001) placed 12th while Maryland claimed the title with a 916.
After an opening-round 81 on Monday, Wagner closed the tournament with consecutive rounds of 77, tying for the best single-round total for MU this week. Fellow junior Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.) also fired a 5-over 77 in the second round, aiding in her tie for 25th place.
Maryland was nine strokes better than second place Florida Atlantic (925). Missouri State (938) placed third, followed by Western Carolina (943).
FAU's June Bolme took medalist honors with a 220. She finished three strokes ahead of teammate Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn (223). Maryland's Kelly Calkin (226) and Katie Trotter (229) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Marshall senior Sheena Caron (Bolt, W.Va.) and junior Meredith Crislip (Parkersburg, W.Va.) posted second-round 78s on Monday, the only other Herd scores in the 70s on the week.
Caron, in her tournament return from a September knee injury, shot a collective 249 to finish in a tie for 38th place.
Marshall will stay in the Sunshine State for this weekend's Cincinnati Spring Invite in Crystal River, Fla. Tournament play begins on Friday.
