- The Thundering Herd managed to connect on only two of 18 three-point attempts in its regular season loss at Tulane, but reversed its fortunes in the first half of its first round contest with the Green Wave. Marshall hit 7-of-15 three point attempts in the first half. However the Herd managed to hit only one three pointer in the second half (1-of-12).
- Tulane limited Marshall to 20.7% shooting in the second half.
- Marshall (12-16) was led in scoring by center Mark Patton's 15 points. Thundering Herd freshman guard Markel Humphrey just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Joe Miles added 11 points for the Herd.
- This marks the first time since 2000 that the first three games of the C-USA tournament have all been decided by single digits.
