HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's soccer team laces up the cleats on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. on Sam Hood Field for the first ever meeting with Eastern Kentucky. On Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. the Thundering Herd plays host to Morehead State. The matches mark the Herd's first games since Sept. 10.

"The team is looking forward to getting back on the field in front of our home fans. We hope to have big crowds against these two talented teams," Head Coach Chris Kane said.

EKU (2-5-0) last played on Sept. 17 in a 4-1 loss to Butler. The Colonels two wins came against Detroit, 2-0, and Indiana State, 2-1 (OT). EKU, members of the Ohio Valley Conference, finished the 2005 season with an overall record of 1-14-1.

Morehead State (2-5-0) makes its second trip to Huntington this season, having previously played in the second annual Thundering Herd Invitational on Sept. 1-3. The Eagles fell 4-1 to Grand Valley State on Sept. 17. Goalkeeper Leslie King stopped a school record 18 shots in the loss. The Eagles and the Herd have met a total of six times since 1998 and Marshall holds a 5-1 advantage in the series.

Marshall (2-3-1) returns to Sam Hood after a two game road trip against Pittsburgh and Akron. The Herd played Pitt, Sept. 8, to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of play and fell to the Zips 1-0 on Sept. 10. Kassie Hollman scored the lone goal against the Panthers in the 17th minute of play.

"We would like to have good support for these games. The atmosphere of a big crowd has a positive effect over the team," Kane said.

On Wednesday, Marshall's athletic marketing department will hold two contests for fans, the Firestone Kick to Win Challenge and the Dress Like the Herd contest sponsored by Stewarts Hot Dogs. The promotions give fans a chance to win a free oil change from Firestone, an entry into a drawing for a set of free tires valued at $400.00 and a six-pack of hot dogs from Stewarts.

The Marshall women's soccer team has joined up with the Marshall Maniacs for Friday's match with Morehead State. Fans have a chance to win one of two Marshall soccer balls autographed by the 2006 women's soccer team and free t-shirts throughout the match.

The Herd will rest for the weekend then return to Sam Hood Field on Monday, September 25 at 4 p.m. to face Delaware State in the first-ever meeting.
