HUNTINGTON- The combination of Julia Axelsson, Kassie Hollman and Kelly Jackson started Marshall's women's soccer match with Delaware State off on the right foot. They connected to score the opening goal of the game in just the second minute of play in today's match. Axelsson tallied the goal with Hollman and Jackson providing the assists. Marshall went on to win 10-0 over the Hornets at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

With the 10 goals today, Marshall scored the most goals in a match against a Division I opponent, tied for the most goals scored in a home game and earned the second most goals for a game against any opponent.

Jackson notched her own goal seven minutes later when she sent a high floating shot towards the Hornet net from 40 yards out. The ball fell under the crossbar and over the fingertips of Delaware State goalkeeper Tara McQueen with Hollman providing the assist.

Just over a minute had passed from Jackson's goal when Hollman scored the first of her two goals in the match. In the 10th minute Erin Johnson carried a ball down field and was able to get a cross off before going out of bounds at the goal line. Hollman collected the pass and finished. Hollman's scored the fourth goal of the match when Delaware State attempted to clear a pass.

The Herd would go on to score two more goals before halftime. Megan Wetzel scored her first career goal in the 33rd minute and Sara Burdick netted her first of the season in the 40th minute of play with an assist coming from Eileen Venechanos.

At the half, Marshall led Delaware State in shots, 15-7, and corner kicks, 2-1. Rachel Huff made one save on the half while McQueen made four.

Burdick notched her second goal of the game in the 60th minute with Hollman providing another assist.

Katy Lee provided The Herd's goal number eight in the 65th minute of play when she let a shot go from 20 yards out to the far corner of the goal. Elise Provenzano and Axelsson provided the assist.

Mollie Lee scored her first of the season and the ninth of the match in the 78th minute off of a cross from Ali Lizotte.

Marshall's 10th and final goal of the match was provided by defender Tracy Fischer. Fischer scored the first goal of her career on a shot from 20 yards out.

"I am happy to see a lot of players get their first points today, especially defender Tracy Fischer. Fischer, who is a senior, scored her first career goal. I am also proud of Rachel [Huff] for earning her first career shutout today," Head Coach Chris Kane said.

At the end of regulation Marshall out-shot the Hornets 34-10. Marshall earned six corners over Delaware States three and forced McQueen to make eight saves to Huff's three.

The Herd had eight players earn their first points of the season, six of which scored their first goals of the season. Hollman moved into the Marshall single-game records by tallying three assists in a match and earning seven points in a match. She also earned herself a spot in the single-season records by tallying seven goals so far this season.

"I am happy to get another win before heading into Conference USA play. I am also proud of the effort today. We still have some work to do defensively before Friday night, but I know the team understands that. We will start getting ready for the game against UAB on Wednesday and hopefully we can continue this on Friday," Kane said.

Marshall opens Conference USA play with a three game road swing starting on Friday, Sept. 29 at UAB. The Herd will then travel to Memphis on Oct. 1 and East Carolina on Oct. 6 before returning to Sam Hood Field on Oct. 13
