"Kellie played a strong match," Marshall head coach John Mercer said. "She played good on her big points against a talented opponent."

In the second spot Kever made quick work of Krishnan 6-1, 6-1. In the three position Soor went 6-2, 6-2 over Pafenyuk. Playing four was Kashelkina with a 6-1, 7-5, win over Bestehorn. Match pitted 94th ranked Lock over Czarnecki, 6-2, 6-2. Jeanne Schwartz finished the shutout by the Herd by defeating Flavia Micati, 6-1, 6-0.

Mercer said playing the talented Eastern Michigan team was a good way for the Herd to start the season focused.

"Eastern Michigan is a good team with a lot of talent," Mercer said. "It took awhile for our young line up to get going but they started hitting shots and stayed positive and things turned out our way."
