MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - With rounds of 307 and 316, respectively, the Thundering Herd women's golf team placed third at the Spider Invite hosted by the University of Richmond.
Marshall posted a solid outing, with three golfers placing in the top 17 overall, led by sophomore Larie Lynch, who tied for tenth with a score of 154 (78, 76). Finishing in a tie 12th overall was junior Andrea Grier, who finished just a shot behind Lycnh with a 155 (74, 81). Rachel Halloran finished the tournament with a 156, tied for 17th in the 36-hole tournament.
The University of Maryland took the tournament, finishing with a total of 603 (301, 302). The Terrapins finished eight strokes of second-place Columbia, who posted a 611. Marshall finished behind Columbia with a 623.
Stevy Loy of Columbia had the top individual score of 144 (70, 74), two shots ahead of Katie Trotter of Maryland. The Terps had four of the top nine scores in winning the tournament.
The team will take a week off before returning to action on Octobe 29 for the Ross Resorts Invitational being held in Southern Pines, N.C. Following that two-day tournament, the team will wrap up the fall season with a trip to the UAB Fall Beach Blast, which will be held in Gulf Shores, Alabama. That tournament is set to take place on November 5 and 6.
