HUNTINGTON - The Marshall University swimming and diving team will have the first of its two home meets this season Saturday against Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium located inside the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall (3-5) is coming off of an impressive when at Radford on Wednesday. The Herd once again had several athletes set season-bests, and diver Siobhan Schuurman set Radford pool records in both the one and three-meter events and set a new Marshall best with a score of 280.72 in the one-meter.
"I am looking forward to our first home meet of the year," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "We have put a lot of miles behind us, and it will be great to have the home crowd behind us on Saturday."
Vanderbilt has failed to earn a win so far this season, but Kraus expects a stiff challenge from the Commodores who compete in the ultra competitive SEC. Among Vandy's top athletes is flyer Leigh-Ann Axt who has picked up wins in every meet this year.
"Vanderbilt has the best butterflyer that we will see," Kraus said. "Kayla Truswell and the rest of our flyers will have to step up and fight hard. We also need our sprint group and backstroke group to continue to make positive strides like they have the past couple meets."
Following the match up with Vanderbilt, Marshall will have a pair of tournaments before heading to Florida in December for its annual training trip. The Herd's only other home meet of the season will be Jan. 12 against Akron.
