Schmitt Honored as C-USA Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Marshall Thundering Herd women's tennis team member, Kellie Schmitt was honored by the Conference USA on Tuesday as this week's player of the week after completing another week of undefeated singles play.
In singles and doubles, Schmitt's combined record was 3-1, helping the Thundering Herd to a weekend split against Penn and West Virginia. The sophomore, ranked No. 18 nationally, took out Kate Kosminskaya of Penn, 6-2, 6-3, and then defeated Natalia Prinz of West Virginia, 6-0, 6-2.
Schmitt's doubles win came at the No. 2 slot with partner Yulia Kashelkina. The duo defeated Kelly Walsh and Monica Lyskawa of West Virginia, 8-2. The weekly honor is the third of Schmitt's career and first in 2007.
Up next for the Herd will be William & Mary at 5 p.m. on Friday in Williamsburg, Va. Marshall will follow up with a trip to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday to take on Ohio State at 1 p.m.
