HOUSTON - After a 5-6 regular season campaign, the Marshall Thundering Herd will participate in its second Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships which begin Wednesday at the University of Houston.

The 2007 C-USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will run through Saturday, Feb. 17 at the CRWC Natatorium.

Last season, SMU claimed its first Conference USA title, setting 23 new meet records along the way with 846 points. East Carolina finished second with 587 points, two points ahead of third-place Houston (585). Rice finished fourth with 540.5 points, followed by Tulane (402.5) in fifth. The Herd finished sixth with 249 points.

"Like last year, SMU is the team to beat," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "But, the conference is a whole lot more than just SMU. Rice is faster and deeper, while Houston has maybe the best group of top 4 athletes in the conference."

Milla Kuuro captured Marshall's first individual C-USA title on the final day of competition, recording a time of 2:02.27 to win the 200-yard butterfly. Kuurto earned All-Conference USA honors as well for finishing in the top three in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events.

"We are confident that we will swim well. Our top ranked swimmers have to hold their positions and everyone else needs to move up.

"Our divers, Siobhan (Schuurman) and Rachel (Hannum) are looking sharp and strong," Kraus said. "They will play a big part in doing well at conference."
