COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Marshall Thundering Herd women's tennis team (9-5) was unable to overcome the 38th-ranked South Carolina (6-2) Wednesday in a 6-1 loss.

Marshall's Thaddea Lock picked up the lone victory for the Herd as she defeated Laura Ganzer, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.

In doubles the 41st-ranked pair of USC's Gira Schofield and Ana Marija Zubori knocked off Marshall's No. 27 team of Kellie Schmitt and Lynzee Kever.

Schmitt, who is ranked 28th by the ITA, also fell in singles competition to Schofield, 6-4, 6-2. The Marshall sophomore's record is now 11-2 on the spring season and 28-7 for the year.

Marshall will be at home for its next two matches. Friday the Herd will play Penn State and on Sunday Marshall will face Middle Tennessee.
