LAS VEGAS -- Pacific's Gina Carbonatto went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, while driving in six runs to lead the Tigers to a 9-0 run-rule victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd Friday night at Eller Media Stadium.

Senior Amanda Luers (Dover, Ohio/Dover) was dealt the loss (0-1), allowing five runs - four of which were earned - on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Alyce Jorgensen (1-0) earned the victory for the Tigers, scattering three hits over four innings.

In addition to Carbonatto's offensive production, Karie Wilson went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Jennifer Curtier added a solo home run.

Marshall sophomore centerfielder J.J. Bitner (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) went 3-for-3 with three singles. Gina Guzzo (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) went 1-for-2 with a single.

The Herd fell behind early, as Pacific took a quick 1-0 lead in the opening frame. With two outs, Curtier sent a Luers pitch over the left field fence - the Tigers' third home run of the tournament.

Pacific added to its lead in the second inning. Lauren Weyman led off with a single through the left side of the infield. Three batters later, the Tigers loaded the bases on a Marcena Bertoldo (Beaumont, Calif./Rialto) fielding error. Carbonatto later singled to left field, plating Weyman for a 2-0 Pacific advantage.

The third inning saw Pacific bat around in the order, as the Tigers pushed across six more runs to extend its lead to 8-0. Karie Wilson's two-RBI single to right-center field increased the Pacific lead to 4-0, which also forced Luers out of the game.

After Caitlyn Jackson (Ontario, Calif./Pomona Catholic) replaced Luers, Pacific capped off its six-run inning with Carbonatto's grand slam to left-center field. Jackson lasted one-third of an inning, surrendering three runs on two hits with one strikeout.

Freshman Erin DeStefano (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) relieved Jackson in the fourth inning. DeStefano allowed one run on four hits in the game's final two innings.

The Marshall Thundering Herd returns to action Saturday evening for day three of the 2007 Alexis Resort Kickoff Classic at Eller Media Softball Stadium. The Herd will face the host UNLV Rebels at 9 p.m. (ET), followed by the Nicholls State Colonels at 11:15 p.m. (ET). Live stats will be available via www.HerdZone.com.
