ONEONTA, Ala. - The Marshall women's golf team concluded its 2006-07 season with a seventh-place finish at the Conference USA Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday, played at the 6,161-yard, par-72 Limestone Springs Golf Club, with freshman Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.) ranking as the Herd's top player at the event with a score of 239 (t-22nd).

As a team, Marshall posted its best score of the tournament in Wednesday's final round with a 318. The Herd's 966 (325-323-318) was just one stroke ahead of eighth-place Southern Miss.

Memphis won the team title with a 912 and gained an automatic berth in the NCAA Regionals thanks to a two-stroke victory over defending champion East Carolina (914). UCF, UTEP and SMU (922) finished in a three-way tie for third place.

UTEP's Gerina Mendoza, the 2007 C-USA Golfer of the Year, claimed medalist honors after shooting under par in every round. She finished with a 207 (-9) and was just one of two golfers to finish under par for the championship, five strokes ahead of Stacy Tate of Memphis (-4). Kate Ackerson of SMU placed third overall (223).

Lynch's final round of her first conference championship was a roller coaster affair. Teeing off from the back nine, Lynch bogeyed her first three holes but rebounded with back-to-back pars. After a double bogey on the par-3 15th hole, she posted pars on the final three holes before the turn.

After a bogey on No. 1, Lynch recorded the Herd's lone eagle of the tournament on the par-5 2nd hole. Only two players that finished ahead of her eagled No. 2 throughout the week.

The final 18 holes of the championship marked the second straight round in which two MU golfers scored in the 70s, as senior Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va.) and junior Whitney Wolejko (Hatfield, Mass.) fired a final-round 78 and 79, respectively. Hatcher placed in a three-way tie for 25th place with a 241, second-best among Herd golfers for the week, while Wolejko's 79 proved to be the lowest scoring round of her season.

Senior Stacy Wagner (Harmony, Pa.) recorded a 246 in the tournament (31st) after shooting an 8-over 80 on Wednesday to match her opening-round score. Wolejko (t-32nd) was just behind, registering a 247 for the championship, followed by a 248 by senior Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio) for a tie in 36th place.

Last season, the Herd finished in a tie for eighth place at the C-USA Championship.
