HUNTINGTON - Two days after announcing one of his largest signing classes, Marshall women's swimming and diving head coach Leonard Kraus released his squad's 2007-2008 schedule Thursday.

"Our schedule gives us opportunities to better ourselves as the season progresses," Kraus said. "Although we have only two home meets, I am really excited about our road schedule. Beginning with six straight road meets will only make us stronger."

For the second consecutive season, Marshall, which finished the 2006-07 regular season with a 5-6 record, opens its season against the Xavier Musketeers (Oct. 12). The following day, the Herd will travel to Ashland, Ohio, to face the Ashland University Eagles on Oct. 13.

After a two-week layoff from competition, Marshall will then venture north to Youngstown, Ohio, for a tri-meet with the host Youngstown State Penguins and the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix on Oct. 26. The Duquesne Dukes will then await Marshall in Pittsburgh on Oct. 27.

Marshall and WVU will renew its annual in-state swimming rivalry as the Herd travels to Morgantown to face the Mountaineers on Nov. 3, before visiting Radford University on Nov. 7.

Then, finally, after spending nearly five weeks on the road, Marshall will host the Vanderbilt Commodores at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium on Nov. 10.

"Vanderbilt is a solid program that made its first SEC championship appearance in 16 years," Kraus said.

Marshall wraps up the fall semester portion of its schedule at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, Nov. 29-Dec. 1.

A familiar opponent, the Akron Zips, will travel to the Mountain State to face the Thundering Herd Jan. 12, 2008, at the Fitch Natatorium.

"Akron provides a familiar opponent from our days in the MAC. It will all come together to provide our team a strong résumé entering the Conference USA Championship."

Marshall closes out its regular season schedule with a dual meet with the Ohio Bobcats in Athens, Ohio, on Jan. 22, followed by a quad meet at East Carolina on Feb. 2.

The University of Houston will host the Conference USA Championship at the UH Natatorium Feb. 27-March 1.
