HUNTINGTON - Marshall senior swimmer Michaela Sceli (LaSalle, Ontario, Canada) swam this past weekend at the Quebec Cup in Canada, where she made the top eight in the 50, 100, and 200 Breaststroke in one of Canada's premier swim meets. Her finals appearances in those three events qualify her for the Canadian Nationals, which takes place at the end of July in Calgary, Alberta.
Sceli finished third in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 33.69 seconds, a lifetime best. She posted a fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.69, another lifetime best. In the 200 breaststroke, she finished with a time of 2:41.00, good for an eighth place finish.
"Even though she slid a couple places in the finals in the 50 and 100 breast, she had a great meet," said Marshall head swimming and diving coach Leonard Kraus. "To be a finalist in her three events at what is most likely the 2nd biggest meet of the summer in Canada is truly a great accomplishment. With the 50 and 100 swims rankling her 7th and 12th in Canada, it is setting her up not only for a dominate senior year here at Marshall but also puts her in the running for an Olympic spot in '08."
