BLACKSBURG, Va. - Marshall volleyball sophomore outside hitter Emily Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio) totaled a match-high 18 kills but Virginia Tech sophomore outside hitter Taylor Parrish (Brentwood, Tenn.) registered her third-consecutive double-double of the tournament to lift the Hokies to a 3-1 (26-30, 22-30, 30-28, 22-30) victory in Saturday evening's non-conference match at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va.
With the loss Marshall falls to 1-2 overall while Virginia Tech improves to 3-0.
Virginia Tech won the first two games before the Herd won a hard-fought game three. The Hokies then sealed the match in game four behind a five-kill effort from middle blocker Felicia Willoughby (Pleasanton, Pa.) in the fourth game.
Freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming (South Bend, Ind.) notched 51 assists and sophomore outside hitter Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas) tallied 10 kills and 10 digs in solid efforts for the Herd.
Senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad) tallied eight kills and senior libero Maggie Arias (Indianapolis, Ind.) dug 10 balls for the Herd.
Virginia Tech senior right side hitter Jen Albrecht (Canadaigua, N.Y.) tallied 11 kills while freshman outside hitter Amy Wengrenovich (Lancaster, Pa.) registered 12 kills and 12 digs.
Willoughby finished with 13 kills and 12 digs and sophomore setter Michelle Lang (Valparaiso, Ind.) tallied 48 assists and 11 digs. Parrish finished with 15 kills and 12 digs for the Hokies.
Marshall senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished with nine kills in the match and was named to the 2007 Virginia Tech All-Tournament team.
Marshall returns to action Tuesday, Aug. 28 when it takes on Glenville State in its home opener. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.
