HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The James Madison University women's golf team leads the field at the Lady Herd Fall Classic by 18 strokes through the first 36 holes played at Guyan Golf and Country Club on Monday. Host Marshall University is in third place, one stroke behind second-place Old Dominion.

The Dukes' Laura Mesa holds a two-stroke lead over the Herd's Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.) in the individual standings. Mesa (151) tied the best single-round score of the tournament thus far with her 2-over 74 in the second round of a wet and rainy day of golf. Her JMU teammate Mary Chamberlain (157) also fired a second-round 74 and stands in fifth place.

Lynch (153) opened her sophomore campaign with a 6-over 78 before shaving three strokes off in the second round. MU freshman Andrea Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) is the next highest ranked Herd golfer after two rounds, sitting in eighth place with a 159. Fellow freshman Kristina Garrett (Chapmanville, W.Va.), playing out of the No. 1 spot in her collegiate debut, is in 14th place (166).

Old Dominion's Alexis Garduno and Emma Gilmore are in a two-way tie for third place with the exact same scores in both rounds (80-76) for a total of 156.

The Lady Herd Fall Classic will conclude on Tuesday with tee times off holes No. 1 and 10 at 8:30 a.m.
