HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University men's basketball program will host the first Donnie Jones Coaching Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Cam Henderson Center.

The clinic will focus on the several different areas of Coach Jones' basketball philosophy, including: the Herd's up-tempo style, three-point shooting, individual instruction, the press, trapping defenses, half-court offense and practice preparation.

The day-long clinic begins with registration/check-in at 9 a.m., with the first of two Thundering Herd practices set to begin at 10 a.m. Two lectures by members of the coaching staff are scheduled, with a social with food and beverage to close the event.

Jones, a two-time national champion as an assistant coach at Florida under Billy Donovan, returns to Huntington for his first season as head coach at Marshall following an 11-year stint with the Gators. Prior to UF, Jones was an assistant coach at Marshall for four years.

Joining Jones on his inaugural Herd staff are: Shawn Finney, former head coach at Tulane; Brett Nelson, a four-year letterwinner at Florida and former assistant at Colorado State and VCU; Darren Tillis, a former first-round NBA selection and assistant at Clemson, SMU and Tennessee State; Tim Thomas, a former prep head coach and head coach at West Virginia Tech.

The 2007 Donnie Jones Coaching Clinic requires a registration fee of $25 per coach. For more information, contact the men's basketball office at 304-696-6460.
