Marshall Women's Soccer will Face University of Delaware

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's soccer team will face non-conference opponent Delaware on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Delaware Mini-Stadium in Newark, Del. Marshall and Delaware both enter the game with 1-1 records.
With a tough loss in Wednesday's late afternoon game against George Washington, the Herd hopes to bounce back with its third road match.
The Herd and the Fightin' Blue Hens met for the first time in the 2006 season. Delaware dominated Marshall with a 5-0 shutout at Sam Hood Field. Senior Kassie Hollman (Marietta, Ga.) led the herd in shots with three, one shot on goal. Marshall sophomore Meghan Wetzel (Aiken, S.C.) pitched in with two shots on goal.
Marshall slightly out shot Delaware 7-6 in the first period, but the Herd was still unable to get past the Fightin' Blue Hens goalkeeper. Delaware out shot Marshall with 20 shots to 12, with 15 shots being placed on goal. The Herd goalkeeper, Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) came up with 10 saves while the Fightin' Blue Hens goalkeeper, Bonnie Mills tallied only four.
George Washington University defeated Marshall, 1-0, thanks to a late penalty kick in the 86th minute in Wednesday's afternoon match at the GW-Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
