Marshall Falls at East Carolina, 75-62

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Pirates' Sam Hinnant had six 3-pointers, one a four-point play, as East Carolina overcame an eight-point deficit in the second half to defeat Marshall 75-62 on Wednesday night.

The Pirates (7-8, 1-1 Conference USA) were down 48-40 after Matt Walls hit a layup for Marshall with 15:17 remaining. Ten seconds later, Hinnant hit a 3 and was fouled and made the free throw to cut the lead in half and begin the comeback.

James Legan's 3-pointer tied the game at 56-all with 6:52 to go. Then Darrell Jenkins' layup put the Pirates in front.

East Carolina hit 12 consecutive free throws in the last two minutes to ice the victory.

Hinnant finished with 24 points and Jenkins had 14 as he went 8-of-8 from the foul line.

Darryl Merthie had 16 points to lead Marshall (9-6, 1-2).
