Men's Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Marshall University men's soccer team was selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the team academic award after posting a 3.08 grade point average in the 2006-07 academic school year, the publication announced.

The men's soccer team had 13 different student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher with three others earning a perfect 4.0 for the spring 2007 semester. Junior Matt Dickerson (Warsaw, Ohio), pursuing a degree in accounting, earned a 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team selection with his 3.79 cumulative GPA.

The Herd not only excelled in the classroom, but had on the field success this season when it finished with a 10-9 record, and earned a spot to the Conference USA tournament. The Thundering Herd defeated third-seeded Kentucky in the first round to qualify for the semifinal for the second time in three years. For their achievement, Marshall placed four players on the all-conference list.

The Herd's men and women soccer teams were one of 74 schools that placed both teams on the NSCAA Division I list. Under the guidance of head coach Chris Kane, the women's team posted a 3.34 GPA.
