Women's Golf Finishes 12th In Spider Invitational

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - In day two of the Spider Invitational, the Thundering Herd women's golf team improved two positions to finish 12th in the event.
After shooting a 331 in the opening round, Marshall shot a 324 on Tuesday to finish with a two-round total of 655.
Larie Lynch led the Herd, tying for 19th place with a total of 155. She followed up Monday's opening round of 77 with a 78 on Tuesday.
Freshman Maria Battaglia made the largest jump for Marshall, improving her score by 12 strokes on Tuesday, hitting a four-over 76, the lowest score for the herd in the tournament. That effort put her in a tie for 50th with Rachel Halloran, who shot an 81 and 83, respectively. Both finished with a 164.
Molly Ginger finished the tournament with a 173 while Kaci Boyd was two strokes behind Ginger with a 175.
The University of Maryland, who was tied for third place after Monday's round, jumped two spots to win the event. The Terrapins shot a 295 on Tuesday, tied for the lowest round of the tournament. They were led by individual winner Jessica Hollandsworth, who finished with a one-under 143.
Monday's leader Wofford dropped a spot to second place while Longwood placed third followed by Columbia and host Richmond.
The Herd will wrap up the fall season in three weeks with a trip to the UAB Fall Beach Blast. It will take place beginning on November 3 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
