HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall's swimming and diving team will look to make big strides Saturday as it takes on Radford in its second consecutive home meet of the 2008-09 season.
Last week the Herd battled to a win over Xavier but fell to East Carolina and West Virginia in a four-way dual meet. Now Marshall will take on a Highlander squad that it defeated 197.5-85.5 last season at Radford.
"I expect to see a really improved squad out from Radford," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "I really want to see us come out and swim a little more crisply than we did last week. We need to be better on our relays, and we need to start off a little stronger."
Siobhan Schuurman was the key performer for Marshall last weekend, recording scores of 247.24 in the one-meter and 234.20 in the three-meter respectively to win both events.
Jessica Sweeney finished in fourth-place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:40.07. Fellow Herd swimmer Lindsey Stock finished just behind her in fifth, clocking in at 10:43.80
Senior Kayla Truswell also performed well with third-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Truswell swam a 2:08.98 in the 200 and a 59.86 in the 100.
Saturday's meet is set for 2 p.m. in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
