HUNTINGTON - Siobhan Schuurman qualified for the NCAA Diving Zone Championships as the Marshall swimming and diving team defeated Fairmont State Saturday 132-62.
Schuurman swept the diving events against the Falcons, recording a score of 264.30 in the three-meter and an NCAA qualifying score of 270.53 in the one-meter. This is the second consecutive year that the senior from Edmonton, Alberta has qualified for NCAA competition in the one-meter event.
"Siobhan continues to exel and is diving extremely well right now," Kraus said. "Today was a good meet because we got opportunity to see some girls in their third and fourth strokes.
"I though we dove well and swam well. I was really pleased the way our 500 freestyle girls swam. There were a lot of season bests and that's what you like to see."
Among Marshall's top finishers in the 500-yard freestyle were Jenny Johnsson (5:11.56), Lindsey Stock (5:15.63), Liz Greenway (5:19.26) and Jessica Sweeney (5:24.89).
This was the Herd's final dual meet of 2008. Marshall will next participate in the Miami Invitational on Dec. 4 and John Caroll Dec. 6.
"This was a nice step forward," Kraus said. "Now we have three weeks of hard training before the Miami Invitational and hopefully we perform well there and at John Carroll Invitational."
