Folden Named C-USA Hitter of the Week

DALLAS, Texas - After an outstanding opening weekend, Marshall senior catcher Rachel Folden was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for her play during the Red/Black Showcase, Feb. 8-10, the conference office announced Monday.

"Rachel Folden started the season off right in her run for first team All-American," head coach Shonda Stanton said. "She is arguably one of the best hitters in the country."

Folden leads the Thundering Herd with a .526 batting average and 10 hits. The Baldwin Park, Calif., native drove in four RBIs over the weekend adding to her career total of 167. She also hit her 42nd career home run, a two run shot, en route to a 9-1 five inning defeat over the College of Charleston.

In the season opener, Folden went 2-for-2 with two walks, a RBI and two doubles to guide the Herd to 4-3 victory over No. 10/8 DePaul, the highest ranked opponent Marshall has defeated in school history.

The Asa finished the weekend with four doubles, five walks and showcased her speed with two stolen bases.

The Herd return to the diamond, Friday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. (CT) against Gardner-Webb to open play at the Auburn University Tiger Invitational, at Auburn, Ala.
