Marshall forward Tyler Wilkerson

On the Herd's effort vs UCF

"We came out and tried to play hard today. We got good guard play and we were able to get the ball inside. We were able to get (the ball) in and out, so it was a real balanced game."

Marshall guard Pierre-Marie Altidor Cespedes

On containing Jermaine Taylor, who scored 34 points vs MU on Feb. 6

"Before the game that was one of our main concerns to make sure he doesn't get anything close to 34 if possible. That hurt us a lot last game so we just tried to make sure it didn't happen today. I think defensively we were just aware of him more and we tried to focus on him."

Marshall guard Mark Dorris

On the Herd's effort vs UCF

"We learned (from the UTEP game on Wednesday) that we've got to come out and play hard for 40 minutes, not 30 minutes or 39 minutes, because a couple seconds can change the whole game."

On free throws

"We knew we'd be back in the same situation. All of us have confidence (at the line) and we were pretty much begging to get back in that situation so we could make up for our mistakes (versus UTEP on Wednesday). Everybody stepped up and made key free throws down the stretch and made plays when they needed to be made."

UCF head coach Kirk Speraw

On Tyler Wilkerson

"He's a very good player. You've seen him emerge in conference play, give him a lot of credit; obviously he's working very hard. He's tough and he's getting better. It's a lot of credit to him and to the entire team. They did a great job and played a very good basketball game and deserved to win."

On the difference between today's game and the first matchup vs Marshall on Feb. 6

"We didn't shoot it very well to begin with, credit Marshall's defense for that. But we didn't shoot it very well and we seemed to let that affect our defense and we didn't have much bite to our defense in the second half when we needed to get stops."

On Marshall's defense on Jermaine Taylor

"I don't know that they did a whole lot differently. It's just that Jermaine didn't have one of his better games. I thought he had some good looks and some looks early that didn't go in."

On his technical foul in the second half

"I was having a little conversation in regards to a play on the other end of the floor. Then when I went into the huddle that was gone. I was upset with my team and (the referee) took it as being upset at him; I had already had my say on that and I was upset with my team and he just reacted to that. Not very good timing."

Marshall head coach Donnie Jones

Opening statement

"Seems like it was the opposite of what it was on Wednesday (vs UTEP), except we made free throws this time. Outstanding team in Central Florida, with another terrific scorer. We were fortunate tonight that we did a pretty good job on a terrific player in Jermaine Taylor. We were worried about Michael O'Donnell being the `X' factor especially in the first half with 13 (points). I was hoping to be able to contain him and he did a really good job and I thought our team did a good job on those guys. I know they hit 10 three-point shots but other than that we did a pretty job of getting the ball inside, getting to the free-throw line and taking away transition. We didn't give up transition baskets and didn't turn the ball over in the second half. I thought we made some good adjustments in the second half to find a way to win this game against a very good team. I'm very proud of our guys."

On halftime adjustments

"I was upset (at halftime) and disappointed with our team. I really felt we were just trying to get through in the first half. We were doing a good job scouting report-wise, but I didn't feel like we were taking it. I thought we should have been up more. In the second half, we went up, got all the loose balls, really paid attention to where certain people were, started switching certain options a little better and understanding personnel. And offensively we recognized what our strengths are. And that was drive the basket. I thought Mark Dorris did a great job."

On the play of Tyler Wilkerson

"You have to give Tyler credit. Hopefully he's not reading his press clippings because he's had a lot of opportunities to do that. He's become our hardest worker in practice, I'm proud to say. He's bought into the coaching everyday; he doesn't make excuses, he just goes out and plays. Our team has recognized that we've kind of built our offense around him. You've got to play to your strengths and hide your weaknesses when you're coaching and right now, with him being able to step up, when he plays well and Darryl Merthie plays well they're the `X' factors."
