IRVING, Texas - For the second consecutive season, Marshall University guard/forward Markel Humphrey (Atlanta, Ga.) was selected to the Conference USA Third Team, the league office announced today.

Humphrey, a junior, averaged 13.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in the regular season, with both totals ranking second on the team. Humphrey was selected to the third team by C-USA head coaches and select media members despite playing with a stress fracture in his foot that forced him to miss three games and kept him far from performing at 100 percent.

"Considering what he has gone through this year, it's a great honor," Marshall head coach Donnie Jones said. "For him to play with that injury and do what he's done is pretty amazing."

Humphrey has been heating up as of late, leading MU in scoring in two of the last three games. He is also the newest member of Marshall's 1,000-point club, recording point No. 1,000 on Saturday versus Southern Miss.

Humphrey and the No. 8 Thundering Herd will open C-USA Championship play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET against No. 9 Tulane.
