HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University's head women's soccer coach Chris Kane recently released the 2008 schedule for the upcoming fall season.
The Thundering Herd finished the 2007 regular season 4-13-1 and 1-7-1 in Conference USA action.
The Herd will welcome back 16 letterwinners and add nine newcomers. Marshall's junior Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) currently holds the all-time career saves record with 190.
"We're really excited about the 2008 season," Coach Kane said. "Although we will be on the road more than home again this fall; I think it will prepare us for the rigors of Conference USA."
Marshall will open its regular season with two road trips against St. Bonaventure University and Mount St. Mary's University, both being first meetings in school history. The Herd will travel to St. Bonaventure, N.Y., Aug. 23, to face the Bonnies and then to Emmitsburgh, Md., Aug.30 to challenge the Mountaineers.
The Thundering Herd's Fourth Annual Nike Invitational will be held Sept. 5 and 7 with Marshall hosting The Citadel, Radford and Mount St. Mary's.
The Citadel and Murray State University games will also be first meetings among schools.
The Herd will begin an eight-game road trip, beginning Sept. 12 against the University of Toledo. The road swing will end Oct. 3 at the University of Central Florida.
Marshall will begin C-USA action, Sept. 26 at the University of Houston, but will host five C-USA opponents at Sam Hood Field this season.
The Herd will play SMU, Oct. 10 and Tulsa, Oct. 12 for the first time since the 2006 season.
Marshall ends regular season action at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., Oct. 31.
The Conference USA women's soccer championship will be hosted by Rice University and will run Nov. 5-9.
