IRVING, Texas - Marshall senior Rachel Folden was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, while teammate Caitlyn Jackson was selected as C-USA Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Folden went 7-for-15 last week highlighted by a three home run performance in a doubleheader sweep over No. 24 Ohio State. Folden's two run shot in the first game against the Buckeyes enforced the eight-run rule and snapped a 32 regular-season nonconference home winning streak for Ohio State.
The Baldwin Park, Calif., native's first homer in the second game proved to be the game-winning run as the Herd went on to the 6-1 win. Folden added her second home run of the game in the seventh to put the Buckeyes away. She now has 51 career home runs, 42 as a C-USA competitor, which places her third on the all-time league list. It was her fifth-career C-USA weekly honor and second of the season.
Jackson earned two complete-game wins during the past week with wins over No. 24 Ohio State and East Carolina. The Ontario, Calif., native earned a shutout victory in an 11-0 upset over the nationally-ranked Buckeyes. The ace followed up her three-hit performance with six scoreless innings against C-USA foe, East Carolina. She finished with a 1.61 ERA and now has seven wins on the season. It was her first weekly honor of her career.
The Herd returns to action for a doubleheader showdown with Ohio, Wednesday, April 9 at 3 p.m. (ET).
