Marshall Finishes Third In Lady Eagle Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Thundering Herd women's golf team shot a 319 in the second round of the Lady Eagle Invite on its way to a third place finish in the tournament.
Marshall, who began the day a stroke off of the lead in second place, finished with a two-day total of 628. Southern Mississippi shot a 621 to take the win, finishing just one shot ahead of Louisiana-Monroe, who shot a 308 in Tuesday's round, the second best round of the tournament.
Kristina Garrett once again paced the Herd, shooting a 5-over 77 in day two to finish in a tie for fifth place. Garrett shot a 74 in day one to finish the tournament with a 151. The fifth place finish marked a career best for Garrett, who eclipsed her finish of 17th in the 2007 Lady Herd Fall Classic.
Larie Lynch grabbed a top-15 finish, tying for 13th place with a 158. Two strokes behind Lynch was Molly Ginger, who shot a 160 to finish in a tie for 17th. Andrea Grier and Whitney Wolejko tied for 23rd and 31st, respectively.
On the individual side, Shasta Averyhardt of Jackson State shot a 2-under 142 to win individual honors. Angela Drane of ULM finished second with a 144.
Marshall will wrap up its season with a trip to UTEP for the Conference USA Championship. The championship is set to take place from April 14-16 at Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso, Texas.
