HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University women's golf team finished the 2008 spring semester with a team grade point average of 3.81, an average that marks a team record in Thundering Herd athletics.
Five team members, including Meredith Crislip, Molly Ginger, Jill Lansden, Larie Lynch and Whitney Wolejko recorded perfect 4.0 GPA's while nobody on the team had a grade below a B.
"The girls really achieved in the classroom and on the course this past season and I'm very proud of their efforts," head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said. "Its really impressive because they do not have any study hall time, they do all of their work on their own."
In the fall semester, the team's GPA was a 3.49, giving them a combined 3.65 for the academic year.
The program has a strong history in academics, finishing the 2006-07 year with a GPA of 3.652, ninth best in the country and fourth amongst schools at the Division I-A level.
