HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University's women's soccer squad will travel to Emmitsburg, Md. to face non-conference opponent, Mount St. Mary's University, Saturday, with kick-off set for 1 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium. The contest between the Thundering Herd (1-0) and the Mount (0-1) will be a first-time meeting in school history.

Marshall opened regular season play last Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over St. Bonaventure University at McGraw-Jennings Field.

"After a strong first effort vs. St. Bonaventure, we are looking to continue to move forward," Marshall's interim head coach Kevin Long said. "We are hoping to see a stronger, more consistent showing defensively while aggressively attacking the goal offensively."

The Herd's freshman Erin Blakely (Westerville, Ohio) tallied her first career and season goal in the 15th minute off of an Erika Duncan (Easthaven, Scotland) corner kick.

Early in the 53rd minute, Duncan registered her first season and sixth career goal 18 yards out from an Angela DeSumma (Doylestown, Pa.) pass.

Senior Ali Lizotte (Iron Station, N.C.) scored her second career and first season goal in the 61st minute off a 25 yard free kick in the upper left corner. DeSumma added an assist in the Herd's final goal and finished with two shots, one being on goal.

Junior keeper Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) took the victory with eight saves while St. Bonaventure's Nicole Markert finished with five saves. Orton now has 198 all-time career saves.

Marshall won despite being outshot, 13-11. The Herd tallied eight shots on goal while the Bonnies registered nine.

"Additionally, I am eager to see us gain a little more composure on the ball as we try to dictate the flow of the game," coach Long added.

The Mount's opened season in Towson, Md. against Towson University last weekend and fell 2-1. Senior Erin Canning scored the Mount's single goal in the game. Towson outshot the Mount 26-to-7 in the game, including a 12-to-2 advantage in the first half.
