ATHENS, Ohio - Marshall University's women's soccer squad played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Ohio University, Sunday afternoon at Chessa Field. The Thundering Herd recorded its fourth double overtime draw and advanced to 2-2-4 on the season. The Bobcats move to 1-5-1.

"We need to start capitalizing on our chances," Marshall's interim head coach Kevin Long said. "We are creating opportunities but we haven't been able to finish."

The Herd scored first in the 20th minute from junior Molly Snead (Cincinnati, Ohio) as she chipped it in from the top right of the box. The forward has tallied two goals so far this season. She also registered six shots on goal in the match.

Sophomores Missy Gordon (Carmel, Ind.) and Kristen Berquist (Highland Village, Texas) assisted on Marshall's goal. Gordon also had one shot.

The Bobcats countered quickly with Halle Plagens's first goal of the season in the 25th minute. Laura Dieter and Lauren Burke assisted on the goal.

"Our non-conference competition has prepared us for the upcoming tough conference schedule," Coach Long continued. "But we need to start being accountable for our shots."

Sophomore Erika Duncan (Easthaven, Scotland) tallied five shots, with one on goal. Senior Ali Lizotte (Iron Station, N.C.) had four shots, with one being on goal.

The Herd dominated play with 18 shots, nine on goal despite the draw. The Bobcats had nine shots, with six being on goal.

Co-captain keeper Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) had five saves, while Ohio's Christa Puccio notched eight saves.

The all-time series lead between the Herd and Bobcats dates back to 1998 with Ohio now leading 7-0-1.

"This is a disappointing tie but we have to get ready for our Houston trip and the start of conference play," Coach Long added.

The Herd will open Conference USA action on the road against the University of Houston, Friday, Sept. 26, at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium with kick-off set for 8 p.m. (ET). Marshall will then face Rice University, Sunday, Sept. 28, at Rice Track/Soccer Stadium at 2 p.m. (ET).
