NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After two tough losses the Marshall swimming and diving team bounced back with a win over Vanderbilt Saturday as the Herd topped the Commodores 177-123.
"Overall I thought it was probably the best dual meet that we've had all season," said Marshall assistant swimming coach Megan Labuhn. "About 70 percent of the times were season-bests."
Jenny Johnsson swam a season-best in both the 200-yard backstorke and the 1000-yard freestyle. The junior posted a 2:07.93 in the backstroke and a 10:37.00 in the free.
Kristen Wheatley finished second-place in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished in a career-best 2:28.01.
Senior Kayla Truswell won the 200-yard butterfly and finished second in the 100. Samantha Noland finished third-place in both events, posting a 2:12.74 in the 200 and a 1:01.05 in the 100.
On the boards, senior Siobhan Shuurman came away with a pair of impressive victories in both the one-meter and three-meter events. Sophomore Haley Holmquist scored two personal bests with a 235.95 in the three-meter and a 250.05 in the one-meter. The Herd took first-through-third in the three-meter.
"I was really proud of the way we swam together as a team," Labuhn said. "It was a really great atmosphere and the girls gave each other a lot of support today."
Marshall will host James Madison on Feb. 7 at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
