Marshall University Women's Soccer Inaugural "Herd Soccer Academy"

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall women's soccer team will begin The Herd Soccer Academy in which it will host sixteen training sessions for boys and girls ages eight through 13, beginning on Monday and Wednesday nights October 5, 2009 until November 20, 2009.

The training will emphasize dribbling, heading, passing and receiving in an effort to establish a foundation of skills for the game of soccer. Each session is geared at providing the players with as many touches on the ball as possible while creating a fun and challenging atmosphere. The end result will develop the necessary skills and tactics to build a lifetime of success through the sport of soccer.

All sessions will be run by Marshall Women's Soccer head coach Kevin Long. Thundering Herd players will demonstrate and teach throughout every session. Long brings with him over 20 years of coaching experience at the youth and college level.

"We're excited for the opportunity to get out into the community and provide this much needed service." Long said.

Sessions will take place at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium on the campus of Marshall University, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday nights. The sixteen sessions will require a $145 fee.

The Herd Soccer Academy is designed for the player wanting to fully develop their skill base in the game of soccer. Sessions are highly active and should only be considered for the young athlete who can commit to sustaining their effort throughout the entire session.
