Women's Golf to Participate in Spider Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University women's golf team travels to Midlothian, Va., to take part in the Spider Invitational at Independence Golf Course on October 12th and 13th.

The two day tournament includes two rounds of 18 holes a piece and has 16 participating teams including; Host University of Richmond, Marshall, Brown University, Bucknell University, Hampton University, Cleveland State University, High Point University, Long Island University, Longwood University, University of Pennsylvania, Towson University, Western Carolina University, Wofford College, University of Maryland, Old Dominion University and Pennsylvania State University.

On both days action will begin with an 8:30 a.m. start time.

The Herd's team roster will consist of Maria Battaglia (Uniontown, Pa.), Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.), Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio), Andrea Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) and Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.).

MU began participating in the Spider Invitational in the 2006-07 season and placed as high as third (in the 2007-08 season).

Last year the Herd finished 12th out of 14 teams. Lynch led the team, tying for 19th place and totaling a 155 in two days of play.

The Thundering Herd's last time out was in the UNCG-Starmount Fall Classic on September 27th through 29th. Marshall finished day one tied for fourth with North Carolina Wilmington and North Carolina State. However, MU dropped to sixth after day two and that's where it would remain following round three.

Battaglia remained consistent throughout the tournament, shooting three consecutive 77's to finish with a team-best 231 overall and place tied for 20th.
