HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall University softball team finished the remainder of its fall schedule this past weekend with wins against West Virginia State and Wheeling Jesuit and also recorded a pair of ties at Ohio to go 4-2-2.

The Herd notched wins on Oct. 10 against WVS (6-5) and WJU (6-5) at Dot Hicks Field. Against WVS, Alianna Telles, Melanie Stoehr, Rebecca Gamby, Jazmine Valle, Melissa Loesing and Samantha Spurlock all scored for the Herd. Valle belted a two-run homerun in the first and went 1-for-2 at the plate. Telles finished the game 2-for-4 with one run scored, a double, a triple and a stolen base.

In the circle, MU pitched Katie Murphree for five innings before Jessica Ferrick made an appearance in the sixth. Murphree would come back in the seventh to get the final two outs and clench a 6-5 MU win.

In the 6-5 win against WJU, the Herd led off with two runs in the first by Telles and Stoehr. WJU countered with two runs in the second.

MU then scored four runs in the bottom of the second. Hughes started the rally after she stole second and third base and was plated by a Telles double.

Hughes would finish the game 2-for-3 at the plate, with one run scored and four stolen bases.

Telles came home on a Stoehr single to left to put the Herd up 4-2. Gamby stepped up with a two-run homerun to center to score Stoehr for the Herd's fifth and sixth runs, respectively.

Rachel Rillo went the distance in the circle with two earned runs.

The Herd traveled to Athens, Ohio, on Oct. 11 where they tied Ohio in a pair of games 3-3 and 4-4. In the first game, Ohio scored its three runs in the first inning.

MU came back with two runs in the fourth by Valle and Spurlock off a double by Marcena Bertoldo. The Herd tied it at 3-all in the sixth on a solo homerun by Gamby. The game was called after seven innings due to time.

The second game started with the Herd scoring first in the top of the first inning when Telles came home on a Caitlyn Jackson hit to left field. Loesing scored in the fourth off a Bertoldo single to put MU up 2-0. MU would score two runs in the fifth to stretch the lead 4-0; Telles came home on a sacrifice fly by Stoehr, followed by Gamby plating Taylor Thompson on a line drive down right field.

Ohio scored three runs in the sixth and would tie the game 4-all in the seventh. In the eighth, the teams played with the international tie breaking rules in place, but due to time constraints the game was called at 4-4 before a ninth inning could be played.

Rillo started the game in the circle for Marshall and would come out of the game after six innings and two strikeouts. Ferrick pitched the final two innings allowing one run and three strikeouts.
